A Legacy of Service. A Commitment to the Future.
The funeral profession has always been about people.
Long before Cooper Funeral Search existed, our family's roots in funeral service began in 1919, when William Wessell, Sr. founded Wessell Funeral Home in Pierce City, Missouri. The funeral home was built on a simple belief—that every family deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect during life's most difficult moments.
That Commitment Continued for Generations.
After returning home from service in the United States Navy during World War II, Bill Wessell dedicated his life to the funeral profession. Beginning in 1945, he operated Wessell Funeral Home for more than six decades while becoming one of the most respected members of his community. Beyond the funeral home, he served through the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Knights of Columbus, the Pierce City Volunteer Fire Department, and St. Mary's Catholic Church. To him, funeral service was never simply a business—it was a lifelong commitment to serving others.
The vintage funeral home was more than a building — it was a statement of community trust, of old-world standards, of the belief that the grieving deserve the very best. We carry that belief into every search. When you work with Cooper Funeral Search, you are working with a firm that knows where this industry came from, respects what it has built, and takes seriously the obligation to serve its future.
Those values became the foundation upon which Cooper Funeral Search was built.

Our company exists because we believe funeral service deserves a recruiting partner that truly understands the profession. We recognize that funeral homes are unlike any other business. Success isn't measured solely by resumes or years of experience—it's measured by character, compassion, professionalism, and the ability to earn the trust of families and communities.
That perspective shapes every search we conduct.
Today, Cooper Funeral Search specializes exclusively in recruiting for the funeral profession. We partner with independent funeral homes, regional firms, national organizations, cemeteries, cremation providers, trade suppliers, and other businesses serving funeral service. Rather than focusing on high-volume recruiting, we concentrate on identifying professionals who align with the culture, values, and long-term vision of every organization we represent.

Every search begins by understanding your business. We take the time to learn your history, leadership philosophy, expectations, community, and organizational culture before presenting candidates. We believe exceptional placements are built on understanding people—not simply filling positions.
